Virgin media hope to be offering download speeds of up to 100mbps accross thier entire network by 2011.
Their current top service runs up to 50mbps which allows uplink speeds of up to 1.5mbps, whereas the new service would allow up to 10mbs.
These high speeds are made possible as Virgin media uses fibre optic cables that use light to transfer data.
They have also been running trials in Ashford in Kent since 2009 of a 200mbps service which would allow them to offer HD content 'on demand' but don't be expecting this any time soon.
